Think about your average work week. What’s the hardest part of getting it all done?
Do you have trouble prioritizing or focusing? Are you getting distracted or overwhelmed?
Are you constantly putting out fires as they arise? Is tough balancing your work and home life?
Many of us think to ourselves, “If I just had one extra day to get stuff done, that would be fantastic.” Well, that’s what we’re going to focus on— giving ourselves an extra workday.
So, why do I think this is so important?
Let’s be really honest. You’re already overwhelmed. You’ve got so much to do. As the owner of your own coaching business, you have marketing, selling, administrating, etc. all on your plate at the same time.
Every time you think about developing new strategies or working on a project, it’s hard to focus on what’s important because you’re drowning in to-dos already.
Even while reading this blog, you’re probably thinking of everything that’s piling up right now and you’re starting to get the feeling you’re falling behind.
I don’t know if this is happening to you, but it’s certainly happened to me in the past.
The reason we’re talking about this right now is because we want to flip that feeling.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I want you to get some altitude. You can get into a higher mental space so you can think clearly about what you should focus on next and what you need to ignore.
One of the things I liked most about our training room in LA at the Shore Hotel was how high the ceilings are. They’re huge! I felt like the added space freed up our minds to think more creatively.
We need to create some altitude around you just like this. In the next several posts we’ll help you free up an extra workday every single week so you can get some altitude.
Instead of drowning in to-do’s, you can make real progress. You’ll still be working hard, but your results will be greater than before.
Think of it as riding a bike versus walking. You’re still moving your legs, but you’re going farther and faster with the same amount of effort.
Finally, instead of adding more to your list, we’ll get rid of a bunch of stuff. Instead of more on your plate, you’ll have less.
Freedom Before Innovation
Craig Rispin is a business futurist here in Australia. He helps large corporations predict where their industry is headed and position themselves in front of it. A big part of his work is helping companies innovate with technology and marketing to stay ahead of the pack.
A few years back, he realized that when trying to help companies innovate, his biggest challenge was time. They would say, “We know we need to be more innovative, but we just don’t have enough time.”
Craig changed his program so when he comes into a business, the very first thing he does is help them become more efficient. He says, “I’ll help you free up one whole day each week. Then, all I ask is that you spend two of those days each month with me, working on innovation.”
The idea here is freedom first, innovation second.
That’s why I’m so passionate about gaining this extra workday advantage. If we can free up one day — just ten hours a week — for you to create and make magic happen, things will get really, really exciting.
Over the next several posts, we’ll take a close look at the principles you’ll need to free up an entire day each week. In the meantime, I want you to ask yourself this question:
