How to Break $1M in Your Coaching Business in the Next 12 Months

Watch Now

You’ve just stowed your bag in the overhead bin and you’re squeezing into your seat, struggling to find the right end of the seat belt buckle.

Then you hear the flight attendant start the safety speech you’ve heard a thousand times. You almost hear yourself reciting it along with her…

“In the event of a drop in cabin pressure, oxygen masks will appear from the unit above. Secure your own mask first before assisting children…”

As coaches, most of us spend all our time running around, fitting masks onto the children.

When one of our clients needs help, we jump to the rescue. We spend our time worrying about ‘John’ and how we can make him more successful.

Here’s the thing: if you don’t put on your own mask first, you won’t be around long enough to help ‘John’ or the thousands of others you’re put on the planet to help.

You First, Please

In the last post, we talked about the four stakeholders whose needs we must meet for our business model to be successful:

  • You
  • Your prospects
  • Your clients
  • Your business

They’re listed in this order on purpose. It intentionally starts with YOU.

The very first thing you need to do with your business model is make sure it gives you what you need.

We need to ask ourselves:

  • What do I want out of this model?
  • Where does it fit in regard to my funnel?
  • Am I focused on building a low priced entry program or a high priced 12-month program?
  • Do I focus on long term or short term?
  • What’s the price point?
  • What do I want it to give me?”

We need to get clear on this first because every other decision we make will be filtered through the lens of making sure we’re taken care of.

If you take care of yourself first and prospects and clients second, the business will be scalable. The scalable business then takes care of you. This forms a cycle, but it must be viewed in the right order, starting with you.

Often as coaches, we build a model that’s perfect for our prospects and clients, but it leaves us running ourselves ragged.

Let’s not do that ever again. Fit your own mask first. Then you’ll be in a great position to assist the children and help as many of them as you can.

Have you been fitting your mask first, or has it been about everyone else?
